Bridging Fields training programme: how to work effectively with farmers

A free webinar for researchers interested in farmer-centric R&D. Hear from funders, farmers, and academics, and help shape what comes next.

This is the first event in the 'Bridging Fields' programme. There is increasing funding and support for research that prioritises the challenges, knowledge, and experience of farmers. Yet, on-farm research requires practical and personal skills that can take years to acquire ‘in the field’. This programme aims to increase researcher skills, knowledge and confidence to work effectively with farmers.

In this first webinar, we'll hear why funders are backing this approach, what it can achieve, and what the pitfalls are.

Agenda

2.30 Welcome and introductions

2.45 Esther Harper, BBSRC | A funders perspective on farmer-centric R&D

3.00 Helen Browning, Innovative Farmers | Showcase of what can be achieved

3.15 Q&A

3.40 Farmer & researcher perspective on working together

4.10 Q&A, next steps and conclusions

The webinar will be followed by a programme of practical events and training courses aimed at researchers who want to run effective on-farm trials or carry out more farmer-centric research. From lunchtime seminars, to one-day workshops and residential training courses, we are designing a suite of options to suit your experience level, time commitment and interests.

The whole programme will be available for free thanks to the Rothschild Foundation.
