Field-scale investigations into the use of resistant varieties to mitigate the risk of BYDV infections alongside the integration of Decision Support Systems (DSSs) to inform best management practice
As part of the field trial a wider approach is being used to understand the approaches which work and why they work and those which are not proving effective and again why that is the case.
A group of farmers in the region of SFE will form a BYDV IPM Hub, sharing experiences with BYDV during the season and collecting standardised data to draw wider conclusions against SFE findings.
The BYDV Hub will be formed of a minimum of 4 farmers, but hopefully more, growing barley in the 2024/25 season, who agree to share data on their approach to BYDV management following processes established in the IPM NET initiative.
This will include sharing of agronomic and yield data, as well as one field assessment to collect observation data on BYDV symptoms and other pest pressures.
SFE host David Jones will act as the Lead Farmer in the Hub, facilitated by ADAS.
