Titled Agroforestry Through the Elements, the five-part series is hosted by guest podcaster Wallace Currie and explores the role of trees on farms through the lenses of water, fire, earth, air, and people. Each episode features candid conversations with farmers, researchers, and advisors recorded live at the Agroforestry Show, shedding new light on how trees can transform farms, landscapes, and communities.
“We wanted to challenge assumptions and explore this popular topic from new angles. By framing the discussion through the elements, we can clearly see how trees, water, energy, soil, climate, and people are deeply interconnected within a farm system."
Podcast guest host Wallace Currie

Across the season, guests include Ben Raskin (Head of Agroforestry at The Soil Association), Vicki Hird (Head of The Wildlife Trust), Professor Paul Burgess (Cranfield University), Helen Browning (Farmer and Soil Association CEO), Thomas Gent (Regenerative Farmer), and Martin Crawford (Design Expert and Agroforestry Research Trust Founder). Their discussions range from trees’ role in flood management and soil health to the ways shelterbelts protect livestock, support pollinators and enhance biodiversity.
The final episode, People, brings together Andy Dibben, Bid Webb, and Dr Jonathan Code to explore the social and educational dimensions of agroforestry, from co-design and community networks to long-term relationships between land and livelihoods.
“Agroforestry isn’t just about trees - it’s about how people and landscapes can thrive together in a sustainable and productive way. This season celebrates that diversity of thinking and practice that is the key to making farming more resilient.”
Matt Smee, Head of Agricology
